General SRB2Kart Breakdown !!
Hello! My name is haya, and I like playing kart and sandbox games.
Generally, I tend to make both gameplay mods and maps, however I don't do too much texture or spritework (I tend to ask other people for that :P)
Combi-Ring Rework
One of my first projects was a rework of an existing mod, that takes the ring tether mechanic from Knuckles' Chaotix, and puts them into Kart.
Basically, a bad idea.
Addendum
Looking back, the combi ring rework was not really all that... great.
It had a lot of issues, particularly because of my terrible coding skills at the time. There's a reason why I decided to refresh the code base to be less headache-inducing for Combinator.
This was VERY fun back in the day, seeing how unbalanced it was, but problems immediately arised when playing on a much more recent version.
"Fickle"-combi problems
- Not reusable. Biggest dealbreaker, as you won't be able to fix issues without fickle's permission, and even then she has since left the SRB2 scene altogether, so there's no fixing this.
- Personally the
SPR_THOK
graphics indicating the two players' connectivity looks shoddy, and also doesn't smooth out correctly since 1.4+ - Not up-to-date with latest Kart features. Hasn't been updated in a while actually.
- No proper interop with other gameplay changing mods. HugeQuest doesn't work right with this.
Idea for a Rework
While playing at a Discord-exclusive combi-ring session with Bladesinger, "Miku" and co. over at Karts R Us, I had an idea for redoing the mod from scratch with less bells and whistles. It persuaded me even more when we decided to play maps with teleporters- Bladesinger got stuck on the last section of Monster Monarch Zone, endlessly getting stuck into infinity. We weren't able to save the replay as intended because of Bladesinger and MalloW being combi-friends, meaning the proper partners aren't initialized properly, though there was a recording made by Eli that showed Bladesinger flying on the minimap.
I first decided to reimplement the partner picking using my own method, though that quickly turned sour as it introduced the "threesomes" glitch, in which one would spectate during a specific point in the partner sequence then immediately rejoin the game. This still happens, albeit very rarely.
Most of the og "fickle"-code has been replaced, though some are still identical to the og. I wanted this to be accurate to the original after all, with a couple of bugfixes I wanted to fix.
I kind of slept on this map mod for months, until I got the energy to work on it again.
Future
Who knows? The upcoming update is planned to rework the entire mod itself, and I STILL haven't started on it yet. Summer vacation is inching closer though, so I may have time to work on it. However, I am kind of busy with a map pack I'm making, which is the next mod I'm working on!
Addendum
It only took me an entirely new kart racer for me to rework the mod.
lmao
FUCKPAK (Or simply, FuckPak)
This is the one I was working on FOR MONTHS. Originally it was just an excuse to post my "Stair" map on the message board (see later for the meaning of the "Stairs"), but I decided to go ham for the first release.
Tf is a stair map?
A stair map is a map that uses stairs most of the time, and is intentionally terrible in design. Most of these maps rely on trolls to have shock value, and almost all of them use the same GFZROCK texture plastered EVERYWHERE.
The stair map included in FuckPak, "Scale the Stairs", is actually quite outdated, as it's actually the first map I have ever created, and generally it's terrible in quality to the other stair maps in the pack. It was originally made as an unofficial sequel to mitsuo's "Climb the Stairs" map, which has since been removed from his map pack, named KanzakiPak.
Addendum
I would put the stair joke back in Ring Racers if I had the time. I even had a somewhat functional remake of Achii's 'Climb the Stairs', but it was never publicly released.
...outside of pearltopia that is. You can probably haggle komalose for it, but I have no use for it right now.
The Filler Cup
The "Random" Cup includes a couple maps that I made on the back of my head, and are never meant to be made with full quality in mind. Honestly most of these were made in a WEEK or even a DAY, hence why I tend to call it the Filler Cup sometimes.
- ELABORATE SHITPOST: This map has a lua script exclusive to it that reimplements the Wipezones gameplay mod, made for a multiplayer setting with points serving as a way to gain a higher position. Bit buggy though, and the map design and textures are meant to distract you from getting a good score.
- DESERT BUS R: A remake of the Desert Bus hellmap, without the hell, and without all the OMORI secrets that map has for some reason.
- HELLSERT BUS R CLASSIC: Above, but smaller.
- AESTHETIC TOUGE: A map in the style of the Floral Shoppe boxart, and meant to be a semi-remake of Touge Zone, which is incredibly tight.
Addendum

The Good Part
Honestly I'm quite disappointed in myself for not filling up the Flatpak Cup sooner, as it only has 2 MAPS! And the other is a hellmap you probably will never play! What a shame...
- GOODTEK, My Beloved: Made in the style of old "My Beloved" maps, with a focus on simplicity and speed, similar to the original MV this map is based on! Yes, the map uses the same song as the map name.
- CHECKERED TILE AREA: A Yume Nikki map. Surprisingly there were no Yume Nikki maps in Kart yet, so I decided to make one! It's pretty hard though.
Addendum
As much as I actually like these maps, these can never be ported for Ring Racers. They rely a LOT on the quirks that SRB2Kart has. Unless I basically redo the maps from scratch, it's not gonna happen.
What the Fuck?
The TMMEx Cup (Which stands for Tetra's Map Madness Ex-Exclusives) includes maps that are a bit too spicy. Generally experimental maps that are a bit quirky, with quirky mechanics and inside jokes.
- ENTRYWAY: A not 1-1 remake of Entryway from DOOM II. I got inspired by MyHouse.wad while making this, and the best way to talk about it would be to play it yourself. :)
- SCALE THE STAIRS: Help. (On a rework to be less shit.)
This never happened.
- SECOND SET OF STAIRS: Made on my birthday to celebrate Karts R Us' second anniversary (?). Includes checkpoints for once, and is actually not that bad. Still in MAP HELL though.
- SPIRAL CRAZY: A map so chaotic that adding item rain would be a mistake in of itself. 20 laps of PAIN, followed by raining items, and walls falling!
Addendum
SPOILER ALERT
Entryway was just a cash-in for the myhouse.wad trend at the time.
Once again, these rely on kart quirks, and will never be ported as is.
Future
Honestly? Quite a bit more for the next update. I tend to make really great stuff from time to time and with enough time, I actually make something quite good. All I can say, stay tuned for Eva 3.0: FrickPak.
